Navigating The Continuum

I have long been fascinated by exploring imagery that lies somewhere on the spectrum between abstraction and figuration. I find navigating this continuum keeps me excited and curious about where my work might next lead.

I mix a variety of media to create rich, textural surfaces to work with. These surfaces are built up of many layers of acrylic paint, charcoal, collage elements and pastel. Sometimes I begin with abstraction and find that an element of figuration emerges, demanding to be developed further. At other times I begin with figuration but find the edges of the figure gradually dissolving into a more abstract world.

I want my work to be open enough to allow the viewer room for their own individual interpretation of meaning. I hope in viewing it, you are able to experience, as I did in its creation, a feeling of slipping between two very different worlds.
