About the event

Annalisa Christiansen

Tide and Horizon

Since moving to Inverloch seven years ago, Annalisa Christiansen has delighted in exploring the region’s stunning scenery and spectacular coastline — returning again and again to the elements that speak to her most.

A lifelong sketcher, she is constantly photographing, observing and studying the environment around her. While she often experiments with imagery digitally, recent years have brought more time to work in the studio — to spread out, slow down, and “splash some paint around” in the real world.

Annalisa is endlessly fascinated by the play of light on water, the shifting coastline, and the grandeur of the sky overhead — especially living on the southern edge of the continent, where weather can be dramatic, changeable, and deeply woven into daily life. Her work is grounded in the natural world and shaped by her personal interactions and responses to place.

Working across acrylic and watercolour, she enjoys the inherent challenges of each medium — their differences, overlaps, and the new possibilities they create when explored side by side.

Biography

Annalisa studied Graphic Design at RMIT and spent more than twenty years working as a graphic designer, primarily within publishing (newspapers, magazines and educational titles).

After returning to local life drawing sessions, she regained skills that had become rusty over time — leading to her entry in The Human Form exhibition at Wonthaggi Art Space in 2024, where she received the Emerging Artist Award.

She held her first solo exhibition at Meeniyan Art Gallery the same year and is delighted to return. In 2025, she also received an Honourable Mention for one of her watercolours at the Inverloch Art Show.
