No matter how we, as artists, work, what remains are fragments — remnants of paper, found objects, old postcards and other ephemera. I gathered them together intuitively, creating works in collage, a medium that as entirely new to me.

About the event
JUXTAPOSED...
Glenys Mann
“Combinations of disparate found fragments”
Shorter Oxford English Dictionary 1935
No matter how we, as artists, work, what remains are fragments
— remnants of paper, found objects, old postcards and other
ephemera. I gathered them together intuitively, creating works in
collage, a medium that as entirely new to me.
These works, in JUXTAPOSED... continues a journey that I
started in 2020. Along the way, I embraced many techniques
that were once unfamiliar to me: collecting worn and discarded
papers, re-purposing old books, exploring gluing and binding
methods, and experimenting with print processes such as
photographic transfers. These discoveries opened unexpected
pathways, leading to this collection of collages that find their
way into local galleries and into the hands of others.
In the end, all I really did was JUXTAPOSE these combinations
of disparate found fragments — and in doing so, I fell in love
with the quiet history held within old books, photos and
postcards.
