About the event
Linda Shaw
Beyond Boundary
The abstract and semi abstract works in this exhibition explore the ephemeral nature of our world. I am primarily interested in portraying the transitory nature of light and exploring a feeling of the vastness of space.
I work primarily in acrylics although my work often integrates the use of other media such as wax crayons, pastels, charcoal and collage elements. I use a variety of tools besides traditional brushes in the hope of creating variety through unusual and unexpected marks.
I work intuitively through the build up of layers and rarely begin with an end idea in mind. I prefer to allow each piece to evolve until a particular direction or idea begins to emerge. It is an approach that shifts the focus away from the destination to the journey.
Biography
I completed a Visual Arts Diploma and Graduate Diploma in Education at Monash University Gippsland, 1975 -1978 (formerly called Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education).
I taught Art and Graphic Design at Sale Secondary College,
1994 – 2008 and Graphic Design at Gippsland TAFE, Fulham Campus, 2008 -2009.
Alongside teaching, I started my own website company ‘Web Feats for Schools’ and designed many websites for schools across the Gippsland region, 2005 - 2018.
During these years of teaching and web design, I continued my painting practice but did not exhibit my work. It is only since retirement in 2020 that I have had the opportunity to focus full-time on my art practice.
