Regina Dudek 'Dwell'

Dwell

Regina Dudek

To dwell is both a psychological state and a physical placement.

By incorporating the iconic shape of a house in my sculptures,

these become a starting point for exploring the idea of home,

belonging and the traces we leave behind.

Many of my sculptural pieces are constructed from pressed tin

that once lined many Federation and Victorian homes. It was

designed to mimic the intricate plaster work and delivered a

sense of European grandeur to Australian architecture.

A reminder of the home these new arrivals left behind.

I add other reclaimed items to my work.

These pieces carry their own history — marked by wear, use and

time. By bringing these fragments together the work suggests

that places of refuge are not always built from perfection but

from accumulated experiences, memories and adaptation.

To dwell invites the viewer to consider both the physical spaces

we inhabit and the emotional landscapes we find comfort,

identity and purpose in.

That which has been discarded often has the potential for

transformation and renewal and gives new value and meaning to

the material.
