About the event
Sereni-Tea is a collection of collage paintings and assemblages created from the calming ritual of sitting with a cup of tea and becoming immersed in the creative process.
This body of work unfolds through layered surfaces, stained marks and repeated tea-inspired forms — using collected cardboard and wooden tea boxes, along with recycled teabags.
Warren often loses herself in the making — and in these moments, with a cuppa in hand — finds a sense of calm and quiet focus.
Through playful shifts in language — Creativi-TEA, Spontanei-TEA, Curiosi-TEA, Vitali-TEA — the works connect word and image, reflecting everyday thoughts, emotions and observations.
This exhibition reflects where Warren loses herself in her art, and finds her serenity.
Biography
Rachel Warren’s mixed media practice embraces collage, assemblage and intuitive mark-making, with a focus on texture, surface and the pleasure of creating. Moving fluidly between painted marks and layered materials, her work combines hand-made gestures with papers and found objects, celebrating the quiet beauty within the everyday. Each piece evolves through process, play and a deep engagement with materials, often layered with subtle humour and playful wordplay.
With formal training in fine art, including a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting & Sculpture) and a Postgraduate Diploma of Fine Arts (Painting) from Monash University, alongside a Graduate Diploma of Education (P–12), Rachel brings over 30 years of experience as both an artist and educator.
Rachel’s exhibition history spans over three decades, from her first solo exhibition at Women’s Gallery, Fitzroy (1992), to her most recent solo exhibition, Finders Keepers (2025), held at Coal Creek Museum, Korumburra. Across this time, she has presented numerous solo exhibitions alongside extensive group exhibitions. She is based in Outtrim, South Gippsland, Victoria.
