About the event
When The Earth Remembers - Exhibition Overview
When The Earth Remembers is a deeply personal body of work by Melbourne-based artist Shae Raelle, exploring the relationship between memory, grief, human experience and the natural world.
Raelle’s practice draws on the idea that our experiences are not held within us alone, but can become entwined with the places and landscapes that surround us. Using expressive, gestural painting, she creates atmospheric works where figures and elemental landscapes appear to merge, exploring contrasts between light and darkness, vulnerability and strength, loss and renewal.
Her process is intuitive and physical, allowing the movement and application of paint to help guide each work rather than seeking complete control. This sense of surrender gives the paintings an emotional immediacy, transforming deeply personal experiences into something broader and universally human.
When The Earth Remembers invites viewers to reflect on the traces we leave behind, the memories carried through place, and the ways the natural world can become a quiet witness to our lives.
About The Artist
Shae Raelle is a Melbourne-based painter and recent Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from RMIT University.
Her practice is grounded in introspection, using painting as a way to explore memory, emotion, grief and the complex relationship between our inner lives and the landscapes around us.
Working primarily with oil paint, Raelle has developed an increasingly expressive and intuitive approach, embracing gesture, texture and the physical movement of paint.
Her work often explores contrasts such as light and dark, control and surrender, creating emotionally charged paintings that transform personal experience into something that speaks to the broader human condition.
Shae Raelle is an exceptionally gifted emerging artist with a distinctive voice and a bright future ahead. When The Earth Remembers is a moving, thoughtful and deeply meaningful exhibition — an opportunity to experience the work of an exciting young artist at an important stage in her creative journey, and one not to be missed.
