About the event
Suellen Lee
Maximum Carry-On
In Maximum Carry-On, Suellen Lee continues her exploration of abstraction, moving into a more fluid and gestural visual language. The works are shaped by an intimate response to her local environment, alongside reflections on a wider world that feels increasingly fractured.
At the heart of the exhibition is the idea of “carry-on” — the emotional baggage we accumulate and the way it subtly colours how we see, feel, and move through space. Lee is particularly drawn to the built environment, and several works reference airport terminals: places designed to funnel bodies efficiently, yet rich with striking colour, form, and negative space. Airports become both subject and metaphor — transitional, controlled, emotionally charged — where private inner worlds travel quietly through public systems.
Suellen Lee lives in South Gippsland and holds a Diploma in Visual Arts. She has exhibited at Stockyard Gallery, Gecko Gallery, and Meeniyan Gallery.
