About the event
My paintings are primarily emotional narratives and my process of painting tends towards how I aspire to live my life.
In art as in life I am interested in journeys and in what lies beneath a particular surface, as much as in the outcomes and the surfaces themselves.
My process is intuitive and layered. Whilst my starting point can be initiated by a response to a variety of influences to do with environment, identity and emotions, the beginning for me is no more than a point of departure. My focus is on allowing a painting to evolve through a process of revision and removal. I am interested in having an openness to risk taking and to be being un-precious about form.
Ultimately though, through a continuous process of building, removing, scraping back and of trusting chance and discovery, unexpected connections develop that create new energy in my work. My experience is that the more I can let go of plans and prescription and allow for the emergence of what is hidden and unprocessed, the more authentic the work feels to me.
